Game Box at the Lowes of Carrollton

Jan 8th, 2011 - If you have been following what I do, then you already know that my parents typically take me to Lowes Build and Grow on Saturdays to build some of their little projects. This week they had the little Game Box. Normally there is a big crowd for this but this morning, it was quite empty. We got the project box and started working. The project was very simple as we only had to hammer a the sides, base and the lid. We were done quickly and we took our patch and certificate. Just as we were about to leave, my friend Arjun and his Dad also came by.

This was the first project for 2011 and I am looking forward to many more. I like doing these projects.

Back to School

Jan 7th, 2011 - I love going to school but at the same time, I really enjoyed the last few days of 2010. I had a great time since my Dad was home and I got to play with him. Its not often that he is at home for so long. Since it was Christmas, we did some shopping, setup the Christmas tree and decorations. We played a lot of games at home like Monopoly, Scrabble and Uno. We also went out a bit to some museums. Overall it was fun but then today it all came to an end as Dad went back to work and I went back to school.

It was great going back to school. My friend Riya was back from her vacation in California and most of other friends returned as well. I was happy to see my teachers, Ms Rumya, Ms Suma and Ms Kalyani back. I got back to my routine of working with numbers, works, painting etc. I guess I have mixed feelings because I am sad the holidays ended but very happy to be back in school. Not sure how my teachers feel ;-)

I did a lot of work this week, writing, math, coloring and also you can see my new "My Book of Tools"

Baking Sopapillas

Jan 5th, 2011 - About once every other week, my mother and I bake something. Most of the times we bake cookies or muffins, but today we got a little adventerous and baked Sopapillas. What are Sopapillas you ask? Go check Wikipedia. Ok, A sopapilla is a kind of fried pastry and a type of quick bread served in Argentina, Bolivia Chile, Northern Mexico, New Mexico, Peru, Texas and Uruguay.

For the aamchi readers, its a bit like making Buns. We made the dough, then I helped my mother roll it. We cut it up into squared and fried them. While the sopapillas were hot, we topped them with Cinnamon Sugar. They were delicious. We have some dough and plans to cook some more over the weekend.

Happy 2011 Everyone

Jan 1st, 2011 - 2011 is here, so Hello 2011 and Goodbye 2010. 2010 was a great year for me. I turned 4, went to a new class with my teachers Ms Rumya, Ms Suma and Ms Kalyani. I started swimming and skating lessons. We took a trip to the East Coast and at the end of the year, we bought a new home. Wasn't that exciting??

Well, 2011 is shaping up to be even more exciting and I hope it turns out that way. I am looking forward to the following things in 2011.

  • I will be turning 5 this year in Feb which is a big deal
  • Turning 5 means that I will start attending Kindergarten. I will unfortunately have to leave Rockbrook Montessori but it means I am growing up.
  • I will be moving into a new home in January as well.
  • I may be making a trip to India as well.

2011 is off to a rocking start. I hope it gets better.

Retiring my Cool Shirts

Sep 05, 2011  -  One of the cool things about being a 5-year old is that you get new clothes every season. The downside is that you outgrow some of your favorite shirts and have to give them away. Summer is almost over for us and it will start to get a bit cold in the next few weeks. Given that it was the long Labor Day weekend and we did not go out anywhere, my parents decided to visit my wardrobe and clean out some stuff that was getting old or starting to get small. I also had to make some space for the new clothes my parents bought a couple of weeks ago.

My parents put a lot of my clothes in a box to give away to charity but they held onto 5 of the shirts that they liked. You can see from what they picked that my Dad likes rock music and my mom picked one for her "Her Lucky Charm" and the other two they picked together.

It was a fun time going through all my clothes. I have new clothes for school and the Fall and the summer clothes that are in good shape go to charity.

Presidents vs Aliens iPad Game

Sep 01, 2011  - In June this year, I had some family visit us and we went to the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas where they have a museum in honor of President John F Kennedy. I did not know much about our presidents except for those who were on the bills. My parents had also got me a Melissa and Doug Presidents puzzle so I developed an interest in the US presidents. Since then I have brought books from the Library and read about the US presidents and their families.

The iPad has many apps that have information about the US Presidents and so I was able to learn about each president. I know things such as the order of the presidents, when they were in office, when they were born and other interesting facts about them. Recently my Dad download a gamed called Presidents vs Aliens where I answer questions about Presidents. If I get the answer, then I get to shoot some aliens. Once I see all the aliens I earn a President and I do this till I get all the 44 Presidents.

Once I have collected all of them, I can play a couple of more games including arranging the presidents in order. I loved this game and completed it this week.
