Nov 03, 2006 - Little India is a small part of Singapore that is a microcosm of India. People from India had migrated to Singapore a few decades ago and have a strong presence in Singapore, so much so, that Tamil is an official language in Singapore. We took a taxi to Little India. The driver dropped us off at the Hindu temple. We reached the temple just in time for the evening Aarti. We stayed till the Aarti was completed and took a walk down the main street.

The street was lined with Indian sari stores, gold stores, grocery stores, Indian
restaurants etc. There is a famous store that most Indians go to shop called Mohammed Mustafa. We just went past it but did not have the time to go into it. My father tells me there used to be a parrot fortune teller. The parrot picks up a card and the fortune teller reads the fortune. Unfortunately, he probably went home.

We then went back to our hotel, freshned up a little bit and then we had dinner at
a restaurant called Lemon Grass. I was too tired and I fell asleep there while my
parents enjoyed a good meal. I guess I got a taste of India....I am really excited about
going to the real India.
