My First Piano Recital
| May 16th, 2012 - Its been a busy week so far with the Rangers game on Monday, my last swim class for the season and today was my first Piano recital. I started taking Piano lessons earlier this year at the Coppell Conservatory. At the end of school year our teacher organizes a piano recital for all the kids that she teaches. In the weeks leading to the recital my teacher kept rehearsing the steps we had to do that day. We reached about 15 minutes before the event. My parents sat in the audience and I went and sat on the seat assigned to me. Piano recitals are somewhat formal events so I had to wear trousers, a shirt and shoes so I looked good . At around 6, Ms April introduced her class to the audience. We were around 20 kids of all ages starting with the youngest (that's me) and ending with a 16 year old girl who was leaving to another city. Since I was the youngest, I got to go first. I went up on stage, took my bow, sat down and played by piece. I was not nervous or scared and I finished my part without any mistakes. The crowded applauded and I went back and took my seat again. After that all the kids took their turns and the music became more and more difficult. I hope someday, I can play like those kids did. It was really cool. |
Coppell ISD Rangers Day 2012
May 14th, 2012 - It seems that every year the Coppell ISD has a night out at the Rangers Stadium and the kids from the school get to go out onto the field and meet the players too. This year, our night out was on the 14th of May and the Kansas City Royals were in town. My dad and I went for the game today as my mother was busy in the evening. We reached a little late due to the traffic and were not able to go out onto the field (perhaps next year). We found our seats quite easily and we were sitting on the Upper Deck right behind the home plate so we had a good clear view of the game. A few minutes after the game started, my principal Mrs Mitchell came and sat in our row and I was pretty excited to see her. After a few more minutes, I was absolutely thrilled to see my teacher, Mrs Moore and her family come and sit right next to us. It was a great feeling. I met my classmates Anu there and saw many other kids from Mockingbird and also from the Coppell ISD. It was really cool. I ate my customary hot dog at the park. A few days ago, Josh Hamilton had scored 4 home runs in one game and we got to take a picture with that bat. That was great too. Since I had school the next morning, we left early. When we got home, we realized that the Rangers had lost the game but thats OK, they are still way on top of their Division. |
Coppell Bounce at Wagon Wheel Park 2012
May 12th, 2012 - Every year the city of Coppell has an outdoor event called "Bounce". Well, you if guessed inflatable rides and bounce houses, you guessed right! The event was held at the Wagon Wheel park where I used to go for my soccer games. They have around 10-12 bounce houses setup in the park. Some of for kids 5 and under and the rest are for the grown up kids. We got there around 11 in the morning and it was not very crowded. The lines were quite small and I got to go on all the rides. There was an Army Boot Camp bounce house, a fire station, a Hawaiin bounce house and many more. After some fun on the bounce houses, I decided to get my face painted. There was a long line but we waited patiently for our turn. The lady was nice and asked me what I would like to be and I said "Batman". She painted a really cool batman. After some face painting, it was back to the bounce houses. By lunch time, I was tired and hungry and the Coppell Police department had some free hot dogs, chips and drinks for us which was really nice. After lunch, I got to go inside the Coppell Fire Department's fire engines and take a look. They were really cool. I also got to mean the Chick Fil-A Eat More Chickin Cow!! Thank you Coppell for organizing this and I am looking forward to the Coppell Bounce Event of 2013. |
Coppell Earth Fest 2012
| Apr 28, 2012 - We have lived in Coppell for about 2 years now and they have celebrated the Earth Fest for at least the past two years in April. My Dad and I decided to visit the event this year. The event is held at the town center of Coppell where they have a lot of open space to host the event. We arrived there around 11 after completing our Build and Grow activity. We drove around for parking and were lucky to find it rather quickly. There were a lot of booths at the event with all of them displaying something green or environmentally friendly stuff. We went to the welcome booth where they gave us a nice bag and a few goodies. We then visited a few booths where I learnt about things like tree cookies, car pooling and recycling. I did some coloring with crayons and built a little mud and grass catterpillar. Stay tuned on my blogs for more updates on how my catterpillar grows. The Mockingbird Mavericks also had a booth and they had a bunch of recycle posters. I also met my classmate from KE, Nico!! He came up to me and said "Hey Nikhil". That was really cool. It was a beautiful sunny day and a great way to enjoy the EarthFest. Looking forward to Coppell EarthFest 2013. In the evening we are going to my friend Sidharth's house for dinner and my uncle Sachin is going to visit us from Seattle. Super bust Saturday. |
Terrarium At Lowes
| Apr 28, 2012 - Spring is here and today's Lowes Build and Grow was to build a terrarium. Now, isn't that word a tongue twister. What is a terrarium, you ask? A terrarium is a small area, usually enclosed so that we can observe plants or animals growing. We built a small terrarium so that we can grow and observe a plant. The bottom, back and two sides of the terrarium are made of wood but the front and the top were made of see-through plastic so we can do the observation. Since it was a box, it was really simple to do. We just had to hammer about 10 nails, thats it. It was probably the fastest I have finished my build and grow project at Lowes. Once I go home, I will fill it up with mud and watch something grow. As usual, the nice ladies at the Lowes of Carrollton gave my patch and a sticker. My Dad had to buy a few things which we did and then proceeded to the Earth Fest in Coppell. |
Our Chicks are about to hatch
Live stream videos at Ustream
| Apr 17, 2012 - For the last few weeks we have been conducting an experiment in school to see chicks hatch from their eggs. About 2 weeks ago, we put a few eggs in an incubator and the chicks are ready to hatch today and in the next couple of days. We are doing this so we can learn about the concept of a life cycle. Our school has put web cameras near the chicks so you can see them hatch. Some have already hatched and are moving around. Its really cool and fun. All this in Kindergarten, its great fun. Our teacher gave us a pretend egg too that I have brought home to take care of as well. Tomorrow is my friend Riya's birthday and so some of these chicks will share a birthday with her. Hope you all watch the video. |
